Dr. de Paiva is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and she recently received the Endowed Caroline Elles Professorship. She received her M.D. degree from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in São Paulo, Brazil, and her Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo in Ribeirão Preto. Dr. de Paiva is an active member of the cornea community and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). She was elected as a Cornea Program Member, a position she served on from 2017 to 2020. Additionally, she served on the ARVO Diversity Initiatives Committee (2020-2023) and as Co-chair of the ARVO Women's Leadership Program (2021-2024). Dr. de Paiva was also elected as Chair of the 2027 Gordon Research Conference. She serves as an editorial board member of several journals and is the Editor-in-Chief of The Ocular Surface.
